Associate Director
Hebrew Free Loan of San Diego is seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial and
mission-driven Associate Director. This key leadership role will work closely
with the Executive Director and the HFLSD team to manage financial
operations, while also supporting fundraising, donor relations, board
engagement and strategic planning.
The AD will play a pivotal role in ensuring the organization’s financial
stability, operational excellence, and mission delivery, helping to steward
interest-free loans responsibly so they can be recycled and re-lent to serve
even more members of the community. This is an exciting opportunity for a
motivated professional with strong leadership, communication, and
analytical skills to learn and increase the effectiveness of the organization’s
day-to-day operations.
This role can be structured full or part-time based upon the skills,
experience and bandwidth of the candidate. Most. Importantly, we are
looking for a passionate leader to help shape HFLSD’s future as a vital
resource for San Diego’s Jewish community.
ABOUT HEBREW FREE LOAN:
Hebrew Free Loan of San Diego (HFLSD) is a dynamic, growing, creative
non-profit dedicated to serving Jewish households living in poverty or
facing financial insecurity in the Greater San Diego community, overcome
temporary financial hardships or pursue their dreams to achieve self
sufficiency through access to interest-free loans. HFLSD provides a critical
hand-up, not a hand-out!
Grounded in the Jewish values of tzedakah (justice/charity), gemilut
hasadim (acts of loving kindness), and tikkun olam (repairing the world),
HFLSD provides a wide range of interest-free loans including for life cycle
events, small business start-up or growth expenses, medical expenses,
debt consolidation, fertility, summer camp, student loans, and many other
loan programs.
Hebrew Free Loan of San Diego (HFLSD) is a member of the International
Association of Jewish Free Loans (IAJFL), a network dedicated to helping
individuals overcome temporary financial hardships and achieve self
sufficiency through access to interest-free loans.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operational/Financial Management – oversee HFLSD’s financial
operations, including budgeting, accounting and reporting.
o Manage cash flow and ensure timely payment of expenses.
o Work closely with the Treasurer and Finance committee to
ensure strong fiscal oversight and sustainable lending
practices.
• Client Relations Support – Work with the Director of Client Relations
to ensure a smooth onboarding process for borrowers, including loan
documentation, verification, data tracking, and client communications.
• Compliance and Risk Management – Ensure compliance with legal
and regulatory requirements; standard operating procedures;
implement and monitor risk mitigation strategies and processes.
• Human Resources – Oversee HR functions, including recruitment,
onboarding, and performance management of staff and board
members; develop and update policies and procedures.
• Technology and Systems – maintain HFLSD’s technology
infrastructure, including website, email, and loan management
software, always exploring new opportunities for improved efficiency.
• Board and Stakeholder Engagement – Serve as a primary liaison to
the Board and multiple Board committees; build strong relationships
with community stakeholders.
• Other Duties – Manage special projects as needed; attend donor and
community meetings; work in a hybrid setting to promote
collaboration and teamwork.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related
field.
• Proven experience in operations management, preferably in a non
profit setting.
• Strong financial management and analytical skills.
• Excellent organizational, communication, presentation and
interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in database management and technology systems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong commitment to HFLSD’s mission and values.

Competitive salary pro-rated to a full-time salary commensurate with
