Helping Dreams Come True with an Education Loan
I’m so grateful to the Hebrew Free Loan of San Diego (HFLSD) for helping me fulfill my dream of going to law school. I grew up in the Bay Area and attended UC Davis, where I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics. I’ve always considered going to law school and thanks, in part, to the Hebrew Free Loan of San Diego I’m making that dream a reality.
I began seriously considering attending law school after listening to the podcast Serial. The podcast focused on a case where a convicted person was possibly innocent. After listening to that podcast, I became interested in becoming an attorney and helping people who were wrongfully convicted. After college, I was a legal assistant at a probate litigation firm. I also volunteered for Sacramento County Superior Court as an advocate for a foster child through CASA . Though my interests may have shifted, my passion for being an attorney has never wavered and I’m so appreciative that HFLSD has helped me take steps towards achieving my goal of becoming an attorney.
I am currently a student at California Western School of Law and I plan on obtaining my JD and then passing the bar. In order to pay for my continued education, I applied for and received a $10,000 interest-free education loan from HFLSD. The loan can be renewed for potentially up to two years and will allow me to focus on my studies and internships instead of maintaining a full-time job.
I heard about the Hebrew Free Loan association from an announcement the Jewish Federation put in our temple’s newsletter. I talked to the HFLSD Executive Director about my goals and how HFLSD would best be able to assist me. Everyone I spoke to at HFLSD was helpful and kind and answered all my questions promptly and effectively. Applying for a loan can seem daunting however the staff at HFLSD made the process straightforward. I would recommend any Jewish person in the San Diego area who is in need look into obtaining a loan from HFLSD.
