Education Loan Recipient - Danya
Helping Dreams Come True with an Education Loan
Danya served in the Israeli Military as a Lone Soldier after graduating high school. When she returned to San Diego she enrolled in college and graduated from Cal State San Marcos with her bachelor’s degree in Medical Anthropology. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Occupational Therapy and was worried that her studies would leave little time for a job. When she came to HFLSD in need of assistance to fund her graduate education, she was completing a four-generation cycle—her great-great-uncle helped endow a similar Jewish free loan fund in Long Beach almost 60 years ago. Danya was grateful to receive the education loan from HFLSD and feels that “this loan will give me peace of mind during the next two and a half years while studying. I won’t have to worry about how I will be able to pay for tuition…School is an investment, and I know that it will open more doors for me… I hope to one day be able to give back to this organization to help others who are trying to fulfil their dreams in life. Ultimately, tikkun olam (repairing the world) is what I hope to achieve and with HFLSD supporting me now it will only allow me to do more in the future.”
